Al Stotts
Well Karren, my "Bio" is somewhat boring. Had to come back to the U.S.
before graduation. Went to Prince George HS in the U.S. because they
wouldn't accept some of our course credits, so I wasted a year there. I did
become Senior Class President, however. After graduation from that High
School, I joined the Army. Why? I got a couple of teeth knocked out playing
football, and I had to staqrt wearing glasses, so there went West Point,
which didn't take waivers then. So, I made Sergeant in two years, went to
S.E. Asia in 1959 with the 25th Division for the first of my tours there. I
participated in 7 Different campaigns there, until my last in the 70's. I
went to OCS and taught at the Infantry School both the Basic Course and the
Advanced Course. I did the Command and General Staff Course, was on the
promotion list when I had a small problem called colonic cancer. My wife
and Uncle Sam were told that aai was supposed to die. Obviously, I didn't.
This made Susan happy, but Uncle Sam wasn't. Ergo: Get out of the Army.
What to do next? What else? Teach Social Studies in a high school or Junior
College. In Florida, Jr.College positions were scarce, so, off to high school,
where I have taught different things, including Advanced Placement
European and World History. I do not think that I could ever find any of
our Munich teachers who would EVER think that I would become a teacher! I
have led a squad, a platoon, commanded a Company, been an S-1,3,and a Bn.
XO. I have even commanded an Infantry Battalion. Of it all, the best was my
marriage and my two children. Of all the rest...Well, compared to Susan and
the kids, it was not much.
